APF and Tigo extend Paraguayan Football League’s TV broadcasting rights agreement until 2023

The Paraguayan Football Association (APF) and Tigo (Millicom) announced last week the extension of the Paraguayan Football League’s TV broadcasting rights agreement, which will be valid until 2023 and is valued at USD 54.9 million. In addition, according to the document, Tigo’s sponsorship was extended for one more year to the Paraguayan National Team, which was initially established until 2022.

The clubs of the Paraguayan Football Professional League will receive USD 1,250,000 during 2021, that is, 14% more than the amount they are currently receiving (USD 1,100,000). In 2022, each club will get USD 1,300,000, and, for the last year of the agreement, they will collect USD 1,500,000.

‘We are very pleased to run this extension agreement, with the full acceptance of all the Paraguayan Professional Football clubs and the APF Executive Council. Getting substantial improvements in economic terms amid the uncertainty generated by the current situation in the world in general, and football in particular, is really important for the present and the immediate future of Paraguayan clubs’, said Robert Harrison, APF President.

For his part, Carlos Blanco, General Manager at Tigo Paraguay, has also expressed himself on the renewal of the agreement: ‘We are pleased with the trust placed by  APF, with whom we have been working together and strengthening the development of a joint vision for many years. We appreciate the APF’s recognition of the investment and work we do every day from Tigo to support Paraguayan football. We have strengthened our commitment, increasing our investment levels, despite the uncertainty we face today worldwide. However, our commitment to continue supporting Paraguayan football through the APF is strengthened and continues growing’, said the executive.

Tigo has recently launched a new offer due to the return of the Professional Football League in Paraguay, which has been already resumed after being canceled due to the Coronavirus pandemic. In addition, in 2019, APF ran an agreement with Mediapro for the international TV rights of the Paraguayan National Team’s matches, effective until the end of 2022.
