Newspaper El Economista reported that América Móvil asked the Telecommunications Federal Institute (IFT) for a pay TV license in Mexico through a new subsidiary called Claro TV S.A. de C.V. -same brand that it uses in the region- and not through its mobile subsidiary Telcel (Radiomovil Dipsa), as it had previously transcended
The IFT had disclosed in December last year that an América Móvil company submitted a request to obtain a concession to provide audiovisual services in the country, through a pay TV system or other digital content distribution platforms, and that the company that presented it was not Telmex.
Now, to conclude this process, apart from Telecommunications and Broadcasting and Economic Competition Federal Laws, IFT must analyze the Administrative Procedure Federal Law, which establishes a three-month period for these type of requirements resolutions. It is estimated that in mid-April the decision of the regulator would be known, although it may request additional information from Claro TV, and put its resolution off.
