Amazon Prime Video launches official trailer for ‘El Candidato’, its new original Mexican production

Amazon Prime Video launched yesterday the official trailer for ‘El Candidato’, its new original production made in Mexico, which will be released this Friday, July 17th. Created by the US screenwriter Peter Blake and produced by Televisa, ‘El Candidato’ will last 10 episodes, which can be watched simultaneously in all countries where the Amazon OTT is available.

‘’El Candidato’ tells a deeply endearing espionage story, showing real issues and problems that affect Mexico today,” said Javier Szerman, Head of Originals MX at Amazon Studios. ‘This series is incredibly captivating, with a cast that offers an exciting story, which we know Amazon Prime Video customers in Mexico will love’, he added.

The series is starred by British actor James Purefoy, and Mexican actors Jose Maria de Tavira, Erendira Ibarra, Joaquin Cosio and Esmeralda Pimentel.

The new Mexican Amazon Originals tells the story of how drug trafficking has permeated socioeconomic levels in Mexico City, where Wayne Addison (Purefoy) returns to defeat his former friend and the most important drug trafficker in the country, Rafael Bautista (Cosio). Working together with CIA analyst Isabel Alfaro (Ibarra), Wayne aims to demonstrate that the Governor of Mexico City, Lalo Yzaguirre (de Tavira), has been trained by Bautista to become the next Mexican President.

The series was initially announced in 2018 as one of the first Amazon Originals in Mexico, made in co-production with Televisa Alternative Originals (TAO), with whom the platform had ran an agreement for various titles.
