Amazon Prime Video invests in Mexico with new local Amazon Originals

Amazon announced this Tuesday, January 26th, during its ‘Prime Video Presents Mexico’ virtual event the premiere of several titles and new seasons of Amazon Originals for the country, including a new documentary series about the Club Deportivo Guadalajara – better known as ‘Las Chivas’; together with new seasons of the already released ‘Pan y circo’ and ‘LOL: Last One Laughing’. In addition, Amazon confirmed plans to film around 15 new original and local series, and 5 original and local films annually within the next 3 to 5 years in Mexico, to launch them in more than 200 countries.

‘Since Prime Video was launched around the world, Amazon has remained focused on bringing customers local series powered by the best local voices’, said Jen Salke, Head of Amazon Studios. ‘Mexico has one of the biggest creative communities in the world, driven by talented local writers, directors, producers, and actors throughout the country. We could not be more excited to bring new and already released Amazon Originals to our customers across the country, as well as bring these stories to a global audience’, the executive added.

Amazon also announced that it is allocating more than USD 2.65 million in donations to COVID-19 funds to support the recovery of the TV, film and theater production community, both in Mexico and in other Latin American countries where the company is developing local and original content.

As reported from Amazon, the announced series join a list of Amazon Originals made for Mexico, including ‘Como sobrevivir soltero’; ‘El juego de las llaves’; ‘El Candidato’; ‘Locas por el cambio’; ‘De viaje con los Derbez’, and other critically acclaimed titles.
