Amazon and RTVE to turn the first Elcano and Magallanes round of the world into a series

RTVE announced last year its plan to develop an international series on the naval feat of Elcano and Magallanes. This Tuesday, the Spanish company reported that it will be entitled ‘Sin Limites’, and will be co-produced with Amazon Prime Video, Mono Films and Kilima Media. It will be an Amazon Exclusive for Spain, the US, the UK and Latin America.

The series will feature four 60 minutes episodes, will be recorded in Spanish and will tell the story of the trip of the five ships that, starting from Spain, showed that the Earth is round. The expedition departed from Sanlucar de Barrameda on September 20th, 1519 and, of the 239 navigators who started the expedition, only 18 survived, who returned three years later in the only ship that resisted the adventure. After the death of Magellan, on April 27th, 1521 in the Philippines, the Basque sailor Sebastian Elcano completed the expedition.

As part of the commemoration of the fifth centenary of the beginning of the expedition, the Lab launched an interactive project in September 2019 that allows discovering the most important landmarks of the expedition and live one day aboard the ship Juan Sebastian Elcano in 360°. The premiere of ‘Sin Límites’ would be in 2022, the year that the 500th anniversary of Elcano’s arrival in Spain after completing the expedition is celebrated.
