AVOD OTT Tubi (Fox Corporation), recently launched in Mexico -this way reaching Latin America – and available in other global markets, is evaluating the possibility of producing its own content, including movies and TV series.
According to the information reported on the specialized website Bloomberg, Steve Tomsic, CFO of the platform, announced these plans during an investment conference. Likewise, according to the already mentioned website, Tubi is still talking to advertisers about partnerships for its first slate of programs. The website quoted people close to the platform, who asked not to be identified, as the plans have not been officially announced yet. This way, Tubi joins Roku, who, after acquiring Quibi’s catalog, has also announced its plans to produce original content. In addition, according to Bloomberg, Pluto TV (ViacomCBS) is also exploring original programming as a way to lure new users and generate additional advertising sales.
After being officially acquired by Fox Corporation in 2020, Tubi announced a partnership with TV Azteca to launch in Mexico. As part of the agreement, TV Azteca markets advertising for Tubi in Mexico, and promotes the OTT to its audience through its online platforms. The official launch of Tubi in Mexico took place in mid-2020, through the VIDAA smart OS platform on Hisense TVs; iOS and Android mobile devices and even via the web. The platform offers in the country a catalog of content dubbed and subtitled in Spanish.
