Vivo tests ‘pay as you grow’ model to expand FTTH in Brazil

Telefónica, which in Brazil operates under the Vivo brand, carried out tests in two cities of the country – Brazil (DF) and Uberlândia (Minas Gerais) – using the “pay as you grow” model developed by Furukawa.
This initiative replaces the home passed concept with one in which the activation of the service is carried out in each particular case, according to the demand, with pre-connected systems. In an event with journalists, the president of Furukawa, Foad Shaikhzadeh, confirmed that the solution was tested by Vivo and will use it in markets where the company still does not have FTTH, Tele.Síntese reported.
Telefónica maintains a strong investment plan in FTTH in Brazil. At the end of Q318, it reported a total of 104 cities with that technology. In the first nine months of the year, the company launched the service in 16 new cities, the same number as in all 2017.
