Verizon Digital Media Services expands CDN reach

Verizon Digital Media Services announced international expansion plans for its award-winning Edgecast Content Delivery Network (CDN). The company has launched network points of presence (PoPs) in Mexico and in South Africa, with plans to open an additional Super PoP in France in Q1 2018. With these latest updates, the CDN now comprises more than 125 PoPs spanning 56 countries across six continents and has increased its network capacity by over 200%.
In Mexico, the company already had a presence in Santiago de Querétaro and Puebla in Mexico and expanded into the nation’s capital of Mexico City in December 2017. These three cities were specifically selected with incumbent networks in the country to ensure optimal quality with a clear path to further scaling, as quality boosts lead to increased traffic growth. Collectively, Verizon Digital Media Services’ CDN is now directly connected to 95% of ISP consumers in Mexico, resulting in the No. 1 quality spot as determined by independent measurements.
In South Africa, the company launched a PoP in Johannesburg, in November 2017, establishing network presence on the continent. Verizon Digital Media Services will also expand into Marseilles, France, in Q1 2018. The new PoP will be a welcomed opportunity to meet growing customer demand, especially in major mobile-first markets like North Africa.
