Uruguay ended 2016 with 731,000 pay TV subscribers

According to a recent report by regulator Ursec, Uruguay ended 2016 with 731,000 pay TV subscribers, 2.1% more than the previous year. Of this total, 39% of the subscribers were located in the capital Montevideo, and 61% in the rest of the country.

In Montevideo, Cablevisión accounted for 23% of total subscriber base (66,350), followed by DirecTV with 19% (52,778), TCC with 18% (52,206), New Century with 17% (47,958), Montecable with 16% ) and Multiseñal with 7% (20,146).

In the rest of the country, where about 448,000 subscribers were located, DirecTV had 30% of the market (135,795 subscribers), followed by Consorcio San Fernando with 7% (32,533), Space Energy Tech (Cablevision) with 5% (21,286), Cable Plus with 4% (16,437), Visión Satelital (Cablevisión) with 4% (16,383), Audomar (Cablevisión) with 4% (16,334) and Time Tower (Cable Visión) with 2% (9,880). Other smaller operators accounted for the remaining 44% (199,178).

At the national level, in December 2016 the cable led among the technologies with 58% of the subscribers, followed by DTH with 27%, UHF with 12% and MMDS with 3%.
