Ultravision prepares to launch new multiscreen service

Mexican operator Ultravision is preparing to launch a new multiscreen TV service before the end of this year. For this initiative, the company has selected Broadpeak solutions.
Ultravision will rely on Broadpeak’s BkM100 video delivery manager, BkS400 HTTP video cache servers, and BkS350 origin packager. By monitoring live and on-demand content, and then caching popular content based on usage patterns, Broadpeak solutions will reduce Ultravision’s content delivery costs while providing a high quality of experience (QoE) to subscribers on every screen, explained the technology company in a press release.
“Our initial plan is to launch 50 live IPTV multiscreen channels by the end of this year. Broadpeak’s solutions are completely software-based, highly flexible, and scalable, which will ensure a smooth deployment and make it easy for us to add more channels and offerings as the service grows in popularity,” said Patricio Zorrilla, Vice President of Ultra telecom at Ultravision.
Both companies recently participated in the conference NexTV Series Mexico & Central America. During the event, Zorrilla explained that the new pay TV service will be based on the 2.5 GHz band on which the company already offers fixed LTE Internet. Initially, the offer will have prices between MX$ 100 (USD 5.3) and MX$ 200 (USD 10.6), according to El Economista.
Ultravision previously had a pay TV system via MMDS serving more than 100,000 customers. The executive said that they expect to reach that same number of subscribers in the next 24 months.
