Chilean free-to-air channel TVN plans to launch soon a mobile portal with a freemium model and exclusive content, Marcela Quiroga, TVN’s Head Digital Sales & New Media, said in an interview with NexTV News Latam.
Quiroga will participate in the next edition of NexTV Series South America, where she will talk about this new project, as well as the importance of different platforms to enrich free-to-air TV. The conference will be held June 14 and 15 at the Alvear Palace Hotel in Buenos Aires.
In the interview with NexTV News Latam, the executive gave details of the new portal and talked about the evolution of TVN Play, the OTT platform focused on Chileans living abroad.
-What contents will be included in the new portal?
The portal will have up to 3-minute video capsules with exclusive content that the user will not find on other platforms. The launch is scheduled for this week or next one. We work with an integrator that is already connected to all telecom companies.
The video capsules will be categorized by sections such as “woman”, “healthy living”, “esotericism”, “home”, “the best of TVN”, among others. We will mix television celebrities with valuable content to the final audience. We will have backstages of artists and special articles in contemporary context, for example, special content for the FIFA Confederations Cup.
-How will the marketing model be?
As it is a freemium model, there will be free and paid contents. There will be a weekly subscription for USD 1.50. The user will subscribe through the mobile operator and will pay through carrier billing.
The OTT TVN Play was launched in May 2016 focusing on contents for Chileans living outside the country. Quiroga told NexTV News Latam that the service went through technical problems so in January of this year they changed the platform and selected Mediastream as technology supplier. This decision allowed the company to “improve the usability” of the product.
Under this new business model, the company plans to reinvest in the service, launch a new communication campaign and carry out a “relaunch” of TVN Play, but now “with a more stable platform”.
-What are the plans and prices?
TVN Play has three subscription plans available: a monthly plan for USD 5.99, a six-month plan for 31.99 and an annual plan for USD 61.99.
– What are the contents included in the catalog?
The product we have prepared has two live channels: the international channel TV Chile, which has a specific programming lineup designed to be accessible from outside, and the channel 24 Horas. The platform also includes about 800 hours of VOD content.
-What are the most popular content?
The most-watched contents are the two live channels and, in third place, a VOD with news. What we realize is that the Chilean who lives outside the country wants to connect to what is happening now.
In addition, TV Chile has an agreement with CDF (entity that manages the soccer TV rights) so the platform also includes some soccer matches. TVN Play was created to offer Chileans living abroad the entire TVN world in a single product.
