The executive president of the National Institute of Radio and Television of Peru (IRTP), Hugo Coya, said that the new international channel of TV Perú will be launched soon, which will be oriented to the 3.5 million Peruvians living abroad.
According to the executive, the channel will broadcast entirely in HD and will include the best of the four existing TV Perú channels. Coya said he has been having meetings with U.S .cable operators so that the international signal “can be seen in the houses of Peruvians and all those who want to learn more about our culture and traditions.” In addition, the channel will be available via OTT for connected devices.
The official said that there are two U.S. operators interested, and they will sign distribution contracts shortly. “We have focused on the largest operators, which cover most of the territory, and that will allow us to initially be in Los Angeles, Miami, New York and New Jersey, which is where Peruvians are located.” Additionally, they are in negotiations for the launch in Europe.
Coya indicated that there is a saturation of ethnic channels in the United States, which becomes an obstacle when facing negotiations. “The reason for my trip was to convince them that there is a demand for the channel”. In turn, the executive said he also met with executives from CNN, Univisión and Telemundo to analyze the possibility to co-produce content.
