TV Azteca reports 7% net sales growth in Q417

TV Azteca announced its financial results for Q417. The company reported net sales of MX$ 4,005 million (USD 215 million), 7% higher compared to the same quarter of last year. “The content generated during 2016 and 2017 has given good results and today the audience recognizes the moment of TV Azteca with greater viewership and time spent on our screens,” commented TV Azteca CEO Benjamín Salinas.
As of Q417, TV Azteca reported EBITDA of MX$ 1,416 million (USD 76 million). This represents a fall of 3% compared to MX$ 1,460 million (USD 78 million) last year. Operating income increased by 3% to MX$ 1,162 million (USD 62.4 million). However, The company registered a net loss of MX$ 1,319 million (USD 70.8 million), compared to a net loss of MX$ 181 million (USD 9.7 million) for the same quarter of 2016. In its report, the company said that domestic advertising sales grew 6% to MX$ 3,623 million (USD 194.6 million), “as a result of the generation of competitive content that reached large audiences in Mexico”.
Revenue from TV Azteca Guatemala and TV Azteca Honduras was MX$ 31 million (USD 1.6 million) in the quarter. Content sales to the United States totaled MX$ 175 million (USD 9.4 million) and the content sales to other countries MX& 80 million (USD 4.3 million). Azteca Comunicaciones Perú reported revenue of MX$ 96 million (USD 5.1 million).
In turn, net sales for 2017 were MX$ 13,829 million (USD 743 million, +11% in local currency). TV Azteca reported EBITDA of MX$ 4,090 million (219.6 million) compared to MX$ 4,098 million (USD 220 million) for the previous year. Operating profit increased 5% to MX$ 3,073 million (USD 165 million). The company recorded a net loss of MX$ 1,163 million (USD 62.5 million), compared to a net loss of MX$ 3,157 million (USD 170 million) for 2016, “as a result, mainly, from a reduction in the comprehensive financing cost this year”.
