Turner will not use its television rights to the Copa do Nordeste in Brazil

The US media company Turner will not use the television rights of the soccer tournament Copa do Nordeste in Brazil, which it has until 2022. This decision is a direct consequence of the closure of the sports channels Esporte Interativo, through which watched the tournament since 2013. Likewise, the company would fulfill the economic part of the contract.

The news was announced by the leader of the Copa do Nordeste, Eduardo Rocha, after leaving a meeting he had with the CEO of Turner for South America, Antonio Barreto. “They guaranteed us the complete fulfillment of the contract and they offered us the return of the transmission rights, with that, we can negotiate with another station and increase the income even more, since they will not make use of their rights to the tournament”, Rocha explained.

Meanwhile, the channel SBT confirmed that it will continue broadcasting the tournament in 2019 on FTA, as it had been doing during the last competitions. The transmissions are made through the affiliate network SBT Nordeste, composed of ten stations distributed in eight states of the northeast of that country.
