Turner has taken full control of CNN Chile after purchasing the remaining 50% stake from Chilean pay TV operator VTR (Liberty Global). In the country, the U.S media company also owns the free-to-air channel Chilevisión.
“We are pleased to have successfully completed this important and strategic acquisition and we are proud to take 100% ownership of CNN Chile”, said Juan Carlos Urdaneta, President of Turner Latin America.
According to the News Director of CNN Chile, Alejandro Repenning, the channel will “continue privileging the journalistic quality and customer satisfaction.” “Now we also have the strength of one of the most important and prestigious companies in the world”, the executive added.
Turner and VTR, the main MSO of the country, had been associated for this project in 2008. The news channel joins Turner’s channel portfolio in the region, which includes Cartoon Network, TNT, and TBS I.Sat among others.
