Telesur goes HD

News channel Telesur commemorated its 12-year anniversary on July 24 and announced that is now available in high definition. This initiative “responds to the new demands of the audience and the telecommunications markets”.

The move to HD format entails a “technological commitment that will offer greater clarity and quality to our information content”, said Paulo Romero, vice president of operations and technology, according to Telesur website. He added, however, that the move wouldn’t compromise the alternative media’s unique insignia of “providing responsible, ethical information and focused on promoting the integration of Latin America as a counterweight to large international corporations.”

According to Romero, this is a process that “has always been present within the planning and strategy of Telesur to be at the forefront of television.”

Telesur began broadcasting on July 24, 2005, from the Teresa Carreño Theater in Caracas, Venezuela. The channel now reaches 123 countries and offers 12 hours of continuous multimedia programming in English and Spanish.
