According to Spanish newspaper The Economist, ‘Telefónica has accelerated in these previous days its plan to sell all or part of the assets of its Central American subsidiary. And, among all countries now placed in the showcase, Guatemalan and Salvadoran operations stands out’. Information, based on ‘knowledgeable situacion sources’, has not been confirmed by the company.
The Economist telecommunications specialized writer, Antonio Lorenzo, pointed that ‘sales would reach USD 600 million’ and ‘among potential candidates, Claro, owned by America Movil, main Spanish group rival in Latin America, stands out with special intensity’.
In both Guatemala and El Salvador, Movistar offers Pay TV through DTH since a year ago.
