Movistar Peru announced the launch of its streaming service Movistar Play, which includes live linear channels and a catalogue with movies, series and children’s content, among others, available at no additional cost for both fixed Internet customers and mobile users.
Movistar said in a statement that the platform is “the only one in the market that allows access to live channels”, such as TL Novelas, Latina, RPP, Gol Peru, TNT, ESPN and HD Stars, among others.
The service is available to all users who have Trio (triple play) and Duo plans; and to mobile users with postpaid, prepaid and preplan plans. According to El Comercio newspaper, Movistar Play was already operating before, since October of last year, but only for pay TV customers with a “Smart” set-top box. Now, the novelty is that the service is available on any connected device, without having to subscribe to pay TV.
“With Movistar Play our customers can access at no additional cost to their favorite television contents from any device. With this, we are reaffirming our commitment to adapt to the needs of our users,” said Luis Acuña, Director of Residential Marketing at Movistar Peru.
El Comercio reported that currently around 50,000 customers use the platform, which was growing at a rate of 10,000 subscribers per month. By the end of the year, the company estimates that one million of its customers will be using the service.
