After announcing that it will produce original series in Latin America, Telefónica started to develop the first one in Peru. The new production is entitled ‘One day you’re young’ and, according to the company, its premiere is planned for September this year, and will have eight episodes of 25 minutes each. The following productions will be made in Colombia and Argentina.
Luis Acuña, Residential Marketing Director at Movistar Peru, said that the company’s goal is ‘to move from being a connectivity company to a video one”. In addition, the executive informed that they will not compete directly with Netflix, since they have an international agreement currently running. He also said that the investment in original video content is probably the largest that the company has made. When asked about the possibility of developing productions in Peru, he said that series production evidently leads them to generate other types of content, such as movies.
About ‘One day you are young’, Acuña explained that filming process began this month and the series could be watched by 110 million customers in 12 countries. The main topic of the production will move around a group of five friends closer to become 30 year-old people. Joanna Lombardi, Head of Fiction at Telefónica in Latin America and co-director of the new series, said that fiction content production industry in Peru has been growing since 2013, and that only last year around 50 Peruvian films were released.
