According to the Spanish newspaper El País, Telefónica is planning to launch in Europe an OTT platform with a library including its original content. The aim would be to offer the new platform in countries such as Germany and the UK, said sources familiar with the project.
The plan would be to offer a low-price product with unlimited access to contents. The platform could be offered direct-to-consumer or through distribution agreements with pay TV operators. The library could include original productions created in Spain but also content created by other subsidiaries, such as Telefónica del Perú, where the group also develops TV shows and series.
According to the report, the existing operations of Telefónica in the UK and Germany could be used to test the product. Initially, the service would be available only in the European market.
