Studiocanal has signed its first licensing deal with Hulu. The streaming service has acquired exclusive U.S. SVOD rights to 20 hours of premium drama content.
The deal includes three dramas: “Below the Surface”, an eight-part drama centered on a hostage situation aboard a subway train beneath the Danish capital Copenhagen; “Midnight Sun”, a thriller in which a cop is sent to an isolated mining community in northern Sweden as part of a murder investigation; and “Trust Me”, the series that stars Jodie Whittaker (Doctor Who) as a hard-working nurse forced to take drastic measures when she loses her job.
“We’re extremely pleased to partner with Hulu in our first deal together”, said Beatriz Campos, head of international sales at Studiocanal. With the expanding popularity of foreign language series in this key market, we are thrilled to close such a substantial package of premium dramas with an exciting blend of European languages which will be showcased exclusively to US audiences for the first time.”
