Video streaming platform Crackle (Sony Pictures Television) has launched in Brazil in partnership with telecommunications company Oi. It is available to fixed broadband customers of the Oi Total packages.
Crackle reformulated its business model this year and ended its free, ad- supported service to become a subscription service in partnership with operators. Sony’s platform closed its first deal of this type with Totalplay in Mexico.
In Brazil, the platform will be initially available in Bahia, Federal District, Espírito Santo and Mato Grosso do Sul as of December 7. Oi expects to expand the service to all the areas where the company operates fixed broadband during the first quarter of 2017.
According to the Brazilian operator, the agreement with Sony Pictures Television Network provides new broadband customers of Oi Total packs with access to Crackle’s content in HD and without commercials. This agreement joins the one Oi already signed with HBO GO, so the company is offering both streaming services as of today.
“The reformulation of Crackle offers our viewers a wide and quality portfolio to watch anytime, anywhere. We are very pleased with this launch and excited about this new model in Brazil”, said Alberto Niccoli, VP and General Manager of Sony and AXN channels in Brazil.
