Brazilian Bandeirantes Communication Group officially announced the arrival of the pay TV Smithsonian Channel, available from next April 26th in HD and will offer its linear programming for subscribers, in Net’s channel 590. With the Brazilian arrival, Smithsonian can be watched in 37 countries worldwide. Its offer includes non-fiction,travel,science, space exploration and nature contents, and many others.
‘After the launches in Latin America in 2018, and in the United Kingdom and Ireland last February, we are encouraged by our access into this important media market that is Brazil, and we are already preparing programming to attract Brazilian talent’, said Tom Hayden, president of Smithsonian Networks.
During the first five days, Smithsonian Channel will present a special launch programming, with the aim of introducing the Brazilian audience to the main contents of the channel. From May 1st, the channel’s programming will assume a definitive structure, in a vertical model.That means that programming will be broadcast every night with focus on a specific topic. Nature programs will be broadcast on Mondays, followed by science (Tuesdays), aviation and space exploration (Wednesdays), pop culture (Thursdays), history (Fridays) and museums (Saturdays). Special series will be Sunday night’s contents. The firstone will be ‘Million Dollar American Princesses’, which will be broadcast on May 5th.
It is estimated that the channel’s VOD platform will be available in Brazil shortly, mainly through Now, Net’s OTT.
