According to a survey carried out by the Peruvian telecom regulator Osiptel, the penetration of smart TVs has tripled over the last two years, growing from 13,3% in 2014 to 36.9% in 2016.
“The vast possibilities of consumption of digital entertainment in the home have been triggered by the appearance of Smart TVs or televisions that allow access to the Internet. In this sense, in just two years, the participation of Smart TVs almost tripled among households with fixed Internet,” said Osiptel president Rafael Muente. In the country, 93.8% of homes have at least one TV.
In turn, the survey has also revealed an increase in pay TV penetration, growing from 38.6% in 2015 to 48% in 2016. Osiptel said that there are 4.1 million pay TV subscribers in the country, more than one million more than a year ago, thanks to the adoption of double and triple play plans.
