Cisco is reportedly seeking a buyer for its video-software unit NDS, according to Bloomberg, citing people familiar with the process. This way, the company seeks to focus on the network-infrastructure business.
Cisco acquired NDS for USD 5 billion in 2012 and integrated the company into Cisco Videoscape. Now, the company is soliciting offers for NDS Group, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the process is private. Cisco-NDS conditional access system is used in Latin America by operators such as DirecTV, Oi and TigoUne in Colombia, among others.
The sale of this unit would speed Cisco’s exit from technology used in traditional TV services following the company’s sale of its connected-device business, the former Scientific-Atlanta, in 2015.
