Regional TV channels have signed an agreement with Chilean public broadcaster TVN to offer through DTT the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup, which has begun on June 17 in Russia.
Under this agreement, TVN allowed the complete retransmission of the soccer event through their local signals, informed on its website the Chilean Undersecretary of Telecommunications (Subtel, by its initials in Spanish). The authorization is for the channels that integrate the Regional Association of TV Channels (Arcatel, by its initials in Spanish) and for independent stations.
The minister of Transportation, Paola Tapia, stated that “the main goal of this agreement is to deliver a better image quality for free to 22 channels, so that more than 11 million people can cheer the national team from every corner of Chile, watching the games in high definition”.
There are 16 regional experimental TV stations and 5 licenses granted to TVN -between Arica and Punta Arenas. All of them participate in the implementation of DTT in Chile, a process that begun in 2015. At the moment, the regional channels have a coverage of 58% with their digital TV test channels.
