Rede Bandeirantes takes the NBA finals to Brazilian FTA

Brazilian Bandeirantes Communication Group (Band) announced last Monday that it came to terms  with the NBA (National Basketball Association), to broadcast the finals of the 2018/2019 season on Brazilian FTA TV after almost 20 years. The last time the channel aired matches of the competition was at the end of 2000, when the Los Angeles Lakers were crowned champions by beating Indiana Pacers. Broadcasts will begin next May 30th.

‘Band was the channel that opened the doors for Brazilians to meet and fall in love with the NBA’, said Rodrigo Vicentini, Head of the competition in Brazil. ‘A whole generation of fans, those over 25 – 30 years old, came out watching NBA’s matches on FTA TV. In addition, after the broadcast of the competition finals, the channel could agree with the entity to include the full next season of the NBA in its programming grid, according to the specialized website Máquina do Esporte.

From Band they have also expressed themselves on the agreement. Jose Emilio Ambrosio, Band’s Sports Director, said that in the company they are ‘very happy to bring this global show to FTA watchers. Sports has always been one of the main topics broadcast on Band, and the NBA Finals exhibition makes that commitment stronger’, said the executive.
