Pay TV operators expand channel offering in Mexico

Mexican Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT) unveiled a report with the evolution of plans and tariffs of fixed telecommunications services, which includes a comparative analysis of the offer during the second quarter of 2017 and the same period in 2018.
IFT affirmed that the offer improved in 2018 compared to the previous year. “In most plans we identified an increase in the services included, in different modalities, and a decrease in the monthly subscription price.”
According to the report, of total pay TV single play plans with prices between MX$ 301 and MX$ 500, 56% included between 50 and 100 channels in the second quarter of 2017. In the same period of 2018, 56% of the plans included more than 100 channels for the same price.
In turn, in the second quarter of 2018, 30% of double play plans with fixed internet + pay TV, with a monthly price between MX$ 301 and MX $ 500, included 10 to 20 Mbps download speed , while at the same period in 2017 that figure was 23%. For the same price, 9% included more than 100 TV channels in the second quarter of last year; and this year, the percentage rose to 22%.
In triple play bundles, the report identified that, for a monthly price of MX $ 300 or less, users have access to unlimited calls/minutes to fixed, mobile and international long distance, internet speeds of 10 to 20 Mbps, and 50 to 100 TV channels, in the second quarter of 2018. In Q217, for the same price, packages offered included 5 to 9 Mbps and the same number of calls and number of TV channels.
