Pay TV in Brazil loses nearly 700,000 subscribers in one year

Brazilian regulator Anatel informed that the local pay TV market reached 18.9 million subscribers in August. The number represents a fall of 3.5% (673,000 subscribers) compared to the same month last year.

 

DTH is the main technology in terms of users in the country. According to Anatel it slightly increased its share from 57.33% in July to 57.39% in August. The regulator reports, however, that cable TV decreased its share of 41.57% in July to 41.47% in August. Meanwhile, IPTV increased its market share from 1.06% to 1.09%.

 

Anatel also reported that at the end of August the top four holdings accounted for 96.3% of total subscribers: América Móvil (52.2%), SKY-AT&T (28.2%), Telefónica (9.3%) y Oi (6.6%).
