NewCo, the Bahamas’ newest mobile operator, announced that 73 sites are installed and active in the country, covering 99% of the population on New Providence and 80% on Grand Bahama. This way, it has completed its first service milestone. The public can now apply to use the service as part of the soft launch phase.
According to Cable Bahamas’ website, the regulator URCA issued the license to NewCo on July 1st and required NewCo to have 99 per cent coverage within three months of license issue. The first coverage obligation has been met successfully and the public can apply through internet to participate of the service launch. It is expected that the service is fully operational later this year, using its 3G and LTE network. The triple play operator Cable Bahamas has 48.25% stake in NewCo.
“We are in the process of providing URCA with all relevant information that shows we have met our three month 99 per cent population coverage obligation on New Providence and 80 per cent on Grand Bahama. Our progress to date highlights our clear focus on delivering for the people. Now that we have achieved this milestone, we have our sights clearly set on our full commercial launch and the reveal of our exciting new brand”, said Damian Blackburn, NewCo CEO.
