Netflix reaches its first exclusivity deal with Disney

American OTT Netflix, the world leader in the Subscription Video On Demand (SVOD) market, reached its first exclusive commercial agreement with Disney, the second multi-media company in the world, to launch all new movies only through its platform the United States.

Netflix CCO, Ted Sarandos, announced the deal in a publication in the official company blog. There it was also published the list of releases that are expected for the summer season between June and October in that country.

In addition to new releases from Disney, Pixar, Lucasfilm and Marvel, Netflix will premiere some of the Academy Awards 2016 winner films, new in-house original movies and classic franchises of the 90s such as Back to the Future, Jurassic Park and Lethal Weapon.

“Many of our long time US members might recognize that summer is a time when we refresh a large part of our film catalogue. This year is no exception, but there is one difference; a batch of non-exclusive titles are leaving while what is arriving is exclusive to Netflix among streaming subscription video services”, expressed Sarandos.
