Netflix announces new Brazilian series

The founder and CEO of Netflix, Reed Hastings, announced in a press conference in Sao Paulo that the streaming platform will produce this year a new original series in Brazil titled “Samantha!”.

The new comedy will tell the story of an actress, who began her career in the 80’s and is married with a former soccer player who was imprisoned for 10 years. Hastings did not give any detail about the cast, but confirmed the series will be produced by Losbragas, the company founded by director/screenwriter Felipe Braga, producer Rita Moraes and actress/director Alice Braga.

Netflix’s CEO also said that the Brazilian Sci-Fi series “3%” will be back for a second season on the platform. During the Q416 earnings presentation, the company had already highlighted the good performance of this original production, not only among viewers in Latin America but also in the United States.

In turn, Netflix is also preparing a TV series based on the investigations of the corruption scandal in Brazil’s company Petrobras, known as “Lava Jato”, with no confirmed release date yet.
