Netflix adds download feature for offline viewing

Netflix announced that it has launched a download feature that allows users to watch select series and movies from its catalog without internet connection. The new feature is included in all plans and available for smartphones and tablets on Android and iOS.

To start downloading the content, users have to update the Netflix app to the most recent version. Among the titles available are the original series Orange is The New Black, Narcos and The Crown, and there will be “more on the way”, the company promised in a statement signed by Eddy Wu, Netflix’s Director of Product Innovation.

Last June it had already been announced that the streaming giant would launch this option. In November, Netflix chief content officer, Ted Sarandos, told CNBC that the company were working on this feature. This way, the OTT is preparing to compete with Amazon, which is planning to extend its video streaming service to 200 countries before the end of the year.
