Movistar Argentina moves forward with fiber deployment, announces new offer for residential clients

Movistar announced a new offer for its fiber customer base, which has reached 300,000 homes connected, the company said in a statement. The new offer includes unlimited calls to fixed lines nationwide, 300 Mbps of Internet speed and the new Smart WiFi application to auto-manage the wireless connection and devices from the smartphone.
Currently, Movistar Fibra is available in the City of Buenos Aires, the province of Buenos Aires and some cities in the interior of the country, “with 300,000 homes connected, 1.6 million homes passed and a future plan to reach to more localities in Argentina,” the company said. In this way, Telefónica prepares the ground to start providing pay TV through this technology, while the Congress prepares to vote the new ‘short’ telecom law that allows telcos to offer DTH.
The company said that “unlike traditional systems using copper and HFC technology, fiber optics offers the same upstream and downstream speeds, the use of multiple devices simultaneously, better connection to online games and better streaming, among other benefits.
The company said this proves “the strong commitment to the development of the industry, closing the triennium with investments of almost AR $ 3.5 billion (USD 127 million) for the deployment of the new Movistar FTTH network.”
