Mexico’s IFT closes case against América Móvil

Mexican Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT) ruled that América Móvil and its subsidiary Telmex did not engage in monopolistic practices by offering Claro Video streaming service free of charge to its customers, Mexican daily El Universal reported.

This way, IFT ordered closing the file. In January 2014, Totaplay (Salinas Group), filed a complaint against América Móvil and Telmex for the commission of monopolistic practices. In March of that year, the regulator admitted the complaint and ordered an investigation.

According to Totalplay, Telmex and Telnor offered Claro Video’s promotion for 12 months to customers of its telecommunications services, through several packages.
