IFT starts investigation on substantial power in radio and TV

Mexico´s Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT) has launched a process to determine the possible existence of economic agents with substantial market power in the radio and television industries.
In the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF), the regulator said the investigation is ex officio. The procedure “does not prejudge the existence of substantial power by any economic agent”. The entity has a period of 90 days, which ends on November 7, according to Forbes.
The regulator said that anyone can contribute during the investigation. In case of finding any company with substantial market power, IFT could establish a series of measures to promote competition. Currently, Televisa is a Preponderant Economic Agent in the broadcasting sector.
