IFT fines Megacable USD 1.3 million for failing to comply with retrans rules

The Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT) of Mexico has fined cable TV operator Megacable USD 1.3 million for failing to comply with the retransmission of the channel 11.2, called Once Niños, owned by the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN).

According to the regulator, Megacable failed to comply with Article 12, which states that pay TV operators must broadcast all the networks belonging to federal public institutions (among which is the IPN).

The cost of the fine is equivalent to 1% of the company’s revenue in 2014. IFT began the administrative proceedings against the operator in January, after the verification staff reported that Megacable was not retransmitting the signal in Torreon, Coahuila.
