HBO Latin America launches distribution unit for international markets

HBO Latin America has launched its own international sales and distribution operation, which has a catalogue with some of the most praised TV series from the region, Variety reported. The company is presenting its lineup at Natpe 2018.
The HBO unit is based in Miami and is headed by Xavier Aristimuño HBO Latin America vice-president, licensing. The executive reports to Francisco Smith, recently named as president of Distribution and Media Development.
Some of HBO Latin America’s productions are “Mr. Ávila “,” The Bronze Garden”, “Magnifica 70 “,” Prófugos “and” El Negocio “, among others.
Most of HBO Latin America series are returning for new season, and the company continues to launch new dramas. This way, HBO Latin America’s catalog has grown to reach an average of 400 hours in series, as well as talk shows, documentaries and animations.
HBO has expanded its standalone services around the world, where it has launched several of its Latin American products. In Europe, for example, HBO Nordic launched in 2012, HBO Spain in 2016. These and HBO Central Europe will continue to have first-option priority on HBO Latin American series, says Variety report.
In addition to its current customers, with whom HBO will continue to do business, Aristimuño said that many traditional free-to-air networks are “ever-more interested in programming series.” HBO Latin America’s prime target will be operators which are relatively new for some world broadcasters in all pay TV, free TV and VOD platforms, the executive added. The company will take on more staff targeting specific territories as new business expands.
