HBO announces new series from “Game of Thrones” creators

“Game of Thrones” showrunners and creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss will return to HBO for the new original series “Confederate”. The announcement was made by Casey Bloys, HBO’s president of programming.

The news comes while “Game of Thrones” approaches the end. The new TV series will begin filming after the final season of HBO’s hit. “Confederate” was originally created as a possible movie, but Benioff and Weiss decided to take it to the TV screen because “no one provides a bigger, better storytelling canvas than HBO.”

HBO’s new production will be about the Third American Civil War. The series takes place in an alternate timeline, where the Southern states have successfully seceded from the Union, giving rise to a nation in which slavery remains legal and has evolved into a modern institution.

In addition to creating and writing the screenplays, Benioff and Weiss are also the showrunners and executive producers of the new series.
