Grupo Multimedios to use Canal Once’s infrastructure for DTT

Mexico’s Grupo Multimedios, owner of the Milenio TV channel, will use the infrastructure of Canal Once, which belongs to the National Polytechnic Institute, to cover Mexico City with the DTT channel it obtained in last year’s tender, reported El Economista.
Both companies signed a passive infrastructure exploitation agreement, effective from January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2020, which will allow channel 6.1 – which Multimedios won in the tender with its subsidiary Televisión Digital SA – to use the tower of Canal Once to mount its 20 KW power transmission antenna there, as indicated in documents of Mexican regulator IFT. Canal Once will receive more than MX$ 1.55 million annually (around USD 80,000).
According to El Economista, channel 6.1 will also install two satellite antennas with a diameter of 3.8 meters, two wireless antennas, four satellite receivers and other equipment.
Channel 6.1 has already begun to carry out test transmission in the last days of March. In the tender conducted by the IFT in 2017, Multimedios obtained six new channels. The company paid MX $ 426 million (USD 21.4 million) for its channel for Mexico City.
