Two of the co-founders of the US online video site YouTube (now owned by Google), Steve Chen and Vijay Karunamurthy, launched on March 9th Nom, a new live and Video On Demand (VOD) platform and free social network specialized in the worlds of food and cocktails.
Nom.com is an interactive community and mobile app that allows any user to create, direct, produce and conduct their own program/channel. The contents will be live online with the possibility of rebroadcasting. Other users can interact with the Nomcaster and with other participants.
The start-up managed to get USD 4.7 million for its market launch, informed local site TechCrunch.com. At the moment, Nom is only in English but its access is universal and is expected to expand its growth to the Spanish-speaking public.
“Collaboration is key for us at Nom. We worked with an incredible group of chefs, makers, and creators to build the site and app they would want to reach an audience live”, stated Karunamurthy in a press release.
“If you’ve ever snapped a picture of your dinner, Nom is for you. If you have a food blog and want to connect with a bigger audience, Nom is for you. If a restaurant kitchen is your office, Nom is for you”, stated Chen on his behalf.
