FOX plans to launch next year the exclusive channel FOX Sports Peru, which will include shows and news produced in the country, Carlos Martínez, president of FOX Networks Group Latin America, told G magazine.
In the interview with the Peruvian magazine Martinez said that they will try to “buy the TV rights of professional soccer teams”. According to the executive, Peru is an attractive market due to its low pay-TV penetration and its young population, eager for quality sports analysis.
Martinez said they will produce between 300 and 500 hours of sports content in the country. Initially 80% of programming will have international content; however, they plan to reverse that proportion to give more space to local content in the future.
Currently, FOX Sports has local channels in Argentina, Mexico, Brazil, Chile and Colombia. In the Peruvian market, the new channel will compete with Gol Peru and CMD, the sports channels of Movistar, the company that owns the TV rights to the domestic soccer tournament.
