Facebook announced in a blog post that it has upgraded its Facebook Live platform with new support for 4K resolution for Live 360 streams.
According to the company, for the first time viewers will soon be able to enjoy Live 360 videos streamed at 4K in VR. Live 360 broadcasts will available to watch in VR in the Facebook 360 app for Gear VR, available on the Oculus Store.
In addition, the social network announced the launch of the Live 360 Ready Program, a list of third-party 360-degree cameras and software solutions verified by Facebook. The cameras and software will feature the Facebook Live logo on their packaging or their websites. The program includes 11 cameras and 7 software suites.
Facebook is also adding a new stabilization feature when the algorithm detects that a broadcast may be a little shaky. The company said that this updates “improve and simplify the Live 360 experience for both creators and audiences”.
