Embratel extends its DTH in BrazilEmbratel extiende su DTH en Brasil

Embratel, the main long distance and corporate services company of Brazil and Latin America, whose main shareholder is the Mexican tycoon Carlos Slim (98%), will expand its DTH offer over 75 cities of the state of Sergipe and 59 municipalities of Piauí, in North area of the country. The so-called Vía Embratel service was launched two months and a 20 million homes potential market is estimated.

The service, which utilizes Star One’s satellite – another Embratel’s company (with 77% of shares) will be offered at a U$S 25.90 monthly fee with 20 channels. The programming package will include Animal Planet, Band News, Canal Via Embratel, Cartoon Network, Discovery Channel, Discovery Home&Health, Discovery Kids, Disney Channel, ESPN, Fox, Fox Life, FX, GloboNews, National Geographic, People&Arts, Space, SportTV, SporTV2, Telecine Premium, Telecine and TNT signals, among others.

Since Embratel is one of Net’s shareholders with a 34.4%, the main Pay-TV Company of the country, is not trying to actively offer the service in areas where Net has coverage, but they expect to widen their offer over the 90% of the Brazilian territory in April this year.

Embratel, la mayor empresa de servicios corporativos y de larga distancia de Brasil y de América Latina, cuyo principal accionista es el magnate mexicano Carlos Slim (98%), expandirá su oferta de DTH en 75 ciudades del estado de Sergipe y 59 municipios de Piauí, en el noroeste del país. El servicio denominado Vía Embratel se lanzó hace dos meses y estiman un mercado potencial de 20 millones de domicilios.

El servicio, que utiliza satélite de Star One, otra de las empresas de Embratel (posee 77% de las acciones), tendrá un costo de US$ 25.90 mensual con 20 canales. El paquete de programación contendrá las señales Animal Planet, Band News, Canal Via Embratel, Cartoon Network, Discovery Channel, Discovery Home&Health, Discovery Kids, Disney Channel, ESPN, Fox, Fox Life, FX, GloboNews, National Geographic, People&Arts, Space, SportTV, SporTV2, Telecine Premium, Telecine y TNT,  entre otras.

Como Embratel es accionista del 34,4% de Net, la compañía más grande de TV paga de país, no pretende ofrecer activamente el servicio en las áreas donde Net tiene cobertura pero esperan ampliar la oferta al 90% del territorio brasileño en abril de este año.
