The Ecuadorean Soccer Federation (FEF in Spanish) announced that it has extended for one more year -until 2018- its TV rights deal with TV broadcasters TC Televisión and Gamatv. The 2017 local tournament begins on January 29.
According to Crónica newspaper, both free-to-air channels had problems last year to cover the agreed value of the rights, of around USD 19.2 million, and for that reason the termination of the contract was considered. The President of FEF, Carlos Villacís, said the channels owed USD 7 million until December 15, although then they paid progressively.
Meanwhile, the Ecuadorean federation is already negotiating television rights from 2018 onwards. Villacís said the federation’s board has already received several companies interested in offering the domestic soccer matches, including Uruguay’s Tenfield, the Colombian channel Win Sports, the Ecuadorian company Servisky, the French group Lagardere and the American IMG.
