Ecuador: Tender for soccer TV rights declared void

The Ecuadorian Soccer Federation (FEF) held a new tender for the TV rights of the local tournament, as requested by the Justice. The entity declared the process void because it said there were no bids. However, DirecTV assures that its offer, for USD 432 million, was not received.
FEF lawyer, Jorge Chang, said in a press conference that the contest was declared void and that the contract with GolTV continues in force, so the tournament will begin on February 16.
However, Fernando Ferro, manager of DirecTV, said that the company joined TV Cable, Univisa and Servisky and among all of them presented a proposal that reaches USD 432 (USD 402 million for TV rights and USD 30 million for sponsorships for the clubs), for the next 10 years, El Comercio reported. According to the executive, the envelope was rejected because it was not properly closed.
The offer of these operators is higher than the USD 270 million of the contract with GolTV, which was signed in early 2017 for the next 10 years.
The new contest was ordered by Judge Jean Valverde of Judicial Unit 1 of Guayas. According to the court ruling, the contract initially signed by the national body “violated constitutional rights to legal security, equality and due process.”
