Ecuador opens TV and radio licenses bid


The Telecommunications Regulation and Control Agency (Arcotel) and the Regulation and Development of Information and Communication Council (Cordicom) of Ecuador announced on a conference to the local press that they have started on April 12th the Public Contest for the Award of Television and Radio Broadcasting Frequencies.


The presentation was conducted by the Minister of Telecommunications and Information Society, Augusto Espin, Arcotel’s Executive Director, Ana Proaño, and the President of Cordicom, Patricio Zambrano.


Ecuador opened the bid for 478 TV, 846 FM radio and 148 AM frequencies. Applicants must submit their documentation until June 15th. The Communications Organic Law of 2013 established that private, public and community media must occupy equal proportions of the total spectrum.
