Disney announced a deal with ESL to launch two original eSports TV series on Disney XD new daily summer programming block dedicated to the world of gaming in the United States. In addition, the company selected aXiomatic, an eSports ownership group, among the 11 companies to be part of the Disney Accelerator program.
The new programming block, called D|XP includes the shows ESL Brawlers, which was released on July 20, and ESL Speedrunners, which is set to air in August.
ESL said in a statement that this agreement “marks the first time that ESL content will air on linear TV in the United States”. Although it was not announced for other regions, Disney could eventually extend the offer content related to eSports in Latin America.
In addition, Disney XD transmitted the Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Final live from the Evolution Championship Series (Evo 2017).
In turn, Disney announced the 11 companies that will receive funding and other support under the 2017 Disney Accelerator program. Among them is aXiomatic, a broad-based eSports company built by leading sports team owners with ownership interests in eSports teams and eSports content distribution. The company has a majority stake in Team Liquid, a top eSports team in the US and Europe with 60 pro players, coaches, and analysts competing in nine games, as well as a minority stake in Super League Gaming.
