Discovery acquires Golf Channel Latin America

Discovery announced the acquisition of Latin American Golf, which operates Golf Channel Latin America, its pay-TV channel, to Simple Networks LLC and Fornaluz Productions, an  Inversiones Bahía affiliate.

‘The incorporation of Golf Channel Latin America will expand Discovery’s global media business related to golf in Latin America, adding a growing multiplatform with more than 10 million pay TV subscribers in 17 markets, and offers a wide range coverage of this sport, in addition to an instructional and entertainment program’, the company said in a statement.

Originally launched in 2006, Golf Channel Latin America offers a wide variety of premium golf content and coverage of PGA Tour tournaments, which includes more than 36 exclusive live events. On TV, the channel is currently available through pay TV operators in 17 countries, and offers reports, analysis and coverage of this sport on its digital platforms. In addition, Discovery managed to develop a strategic partnership with PGA Tour, which included the management of the international multiplatform rights of the PGA TOUR. This relationship, in addition to the acquisition of Golf Channel Latin America, will allow Discovery to optimize and maximize programming and live coverage through the Golf Channel Latin America and GOLFTV screens from January 2020.

‘By adding Golf Channel Latin America, we are adding our efforts to the global strategy to make Discovery the home of golf on all screens. Expanding Discovery’s golf portfolio in the region will allow us to offer a better offer to a growing and passionate audience, and explore opportunities with current and potential distributors and advertisers’, said Fernando Medin, President at Discovery Latin America / US Hispanic.

During 2019, GOLFTV content in the region already includes full live broadcasts through streaming of the European Tour and selected coverage and programming of the PGA TOUR (Feature Group and Feature Hole live) every week, as well as on demand content, such as the exclusive original series My Game: Tiger Woods, starring the 15-time majors champion.
