DirecTV announced that it will offer, for the first time, the 64 matches of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia in Virtual Reality (VR). The technology will be available to prepaid and postpaid clients in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela.
Subscribers will be able to access the games through the DirecTV Sports VR mobile application, which will be available for download during the first days of June for iOS and Android devices. Users will be able to access the content directly on their mobile device, use glasses available for this technology or through a carboard.
The experience will also include access to different angles of coverage, the possibility of watching again the favorite matches and interacting with statistics and with the activations of the official FIFA sponsors.
Virtual reality images will be available as a live experience with 180° views and as a 360° video on demand option.
“In its more than two decades of presence in Latin America, DirecTV has used the FIFA World Cup as a platform for the launch of important technological advances that have improved the experience of sports fans and the entertainment industry’s standards in Latin America,” said José Miguel Vera, Senior Manager of Digital Product of DirecTV Latin America. The operator has already announced that the matches will also be available in 4k.
